Stop Having Panic Attacks by Training Your Mind

Stop Having Panic Attacks by Training Your Mind
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Scott_W_Smith]Scott W Smith

Are you suffering from panic attacks? How bad are they? Do you feel like your mind is out of control? Do you feeling like running and hiding from yourself? Are you afraid that you are going insane?

Many say panic attacks are the most frightening experiences of their lives. In fact, many first time sufferers of a panic attack believe they are dying, going insane or having a heart attack.

Though it is often a purely terrifying feeling to the sufferer, panic attacks are actually an evolutionary body response often known as the fight-or-flight response occurring out of context. These episodes can occur at any time, even during sleep. When the attacks occur repeatedly, a person is considered to have a condition known as panic disorder.

What causes panic attacks? Researchers are not sure, although heredity, brain chemistry, and the way you handle stressful situations all appear to play a role. For example, people who suffer from phobias may experience panic attacks upon exposure to certain triggers.

What can you do to treat panic attacks? An extremely successful way to stop having panic attacks is to train yourself to think differently and behave differently. If you can train yourself to eliminate the fear of having a panic attack, you can be free of panic attacks. When a person feels the onset of an attack the fear of the attack compounds the problem and makes the attack stronger. The key is to break the cycle by actually wanting the attack. I know this sounds strange but it has been proven to be an effective.

The Symptoms of Panic Attacks

What Causes Panic Attack - Causes of Panic AttacksBy [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tony_B._Smith]Tony B. Smith
There are many causes of panic attacks. Many times, the cause depends upon the person and their situation. So, what I'm going to do is share with you what causes panic attacks. That way, you will know when you have an attack and what you can do to stop it.
The causes of panic attacks are:
1. Biological conditions. Panic attacks are caused by conditions such as hypoglycemia, compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress.
2. Phobias. Another cause of panic attacks are caused by things you fear most. If you're afraid of public speaking, you will probably have a panic attack when asked to speak in front of a large group of people.
3. Heredity. If one of your family members suffers from panic attacks, you have a good chance of suffering from the disorder as well.
Now that you know the causes of panic attacks, you need to know the symptoms. So, what I'm going to do is list some symptoms of panic attacks you should be aware of.
The symptoms of panic attacks are:
- tingling sensations-overwhelming fear-dizzy spells-racing heartbeat-tightness in your throat-obsessive worrying-hot flashes
Those were the symptoms of panic attacks. Now that you know the causes of panic attacks and the symptoms, you need to know how to stop it when it occurs. Controlling your breathing won't help you, regardless of what anyone tells you.
What you have to do is get your brain back to its normal state and out of panic mode. That's one reason why the breathing techniques won't work.

Major Depression Symptoms

Major Depression SymptomsBy [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Gitundu]Peter Gitundu
This is the most severe category of depression. In a major depression symptom, more of the symptoms of depression are present, and they are usually more intense or severe. A major depression symptom can result from a single traumatic event in your life, or may develop slowly as a consequence of numerous personal disappointments and life problems. Some people appear to develop the symptoms of a major depression without any obvious life crisis causing it.
Major depression can occur once, as a result of a significant psychological trauma, respond to treatment, and never occur again within your lifetime. This would be a single episode depression. Some people tend to have recurring depression, with episodes of depression followed by periods of several years without depression, followed by another episode, usually in response to another trauma. This would be a recurrent depression. In general, the treatment is similar, except that treatment usually is over a longer time period for recurrent depression.
Professional debate continues regarding whether some people develop "endogenous depression" without any identified psychological causes. An endogenous depression is a biologically caused depression, due presumably to either genetic causes or a malfunction in the brain chemistry. After psychological treatment and recovery from depression, the brain chemistry returns to normal, even without medication
Medication treats the symptoms of depression, and is often a vital part of the treatment program, but it is essential to treat the psychological problems that caused the depression.
Remember, only physicians are qualified to prescribe medication. Unfortunately, many poorly trained counselors never move beyond providing supportive counseling. This alone will not eliminate the depression. Supportive counseling "feels" helpful, and as part of the overall treatment plan does help. But, unless the depressed person makes critical life changes, the depression will continue. These changes are both internal and external.

Depression and the Effects on Our Life

Depression and the Effects on Our LifeBy [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Frank_Wyatt]Frank Wyatt
Depression is something that we all have to face in our life from time to time. First, we all have different views on depression.
The next factor to consider is if depression is normal. Personally, I have dealt with depression from time to time in my life: my father passing away a few years ago was one such instance. Such times in one's life are life changing events.
There are tools that we must use if we are to deal appropriately with depression. First, we must admit that we cannot deal with the depression by ourselves. We must surround ourselves with positive people: this is a must. These folks will help us see things in a different light. They will pick us up when we are down. They will give us the insight we need to make the right decisions and choices that we need to make. We should never make a decision when we are depressed: we will be going by emotions.
If depression is not dealt with in the right way, our life will become unmanageable: we will overwhelm ourselves on a daily basis. Some people who are depressed need medication and counseling; these people must be diligent in these efforts.
I challenge you today if you are dealing with depression that you deal with it appropriately. Get a grip on it, and don't let depression control your life. Today your life can change as you allow yourself to be free. The choice is yours. [http://nixhe.com/depression/]Depression Help Blog!
